Player Name: Toni
Character(s): Akande Ogundimu + holy shit a ton of characters have expressed interest
Plot Type: Group
Dates: ICly I'd like this to start the week or so after the return to Duplicity, with the main event taking place a few days to a week later.
Plot Description: We've touched based on this before, but let's do a formal, starting-from-nothing write-up!
Even prior to Fort Harmony, Akande was planning on testing Duplicity's strength; the events of such have just reasserted his desire to A) fight back B) allow others to take the fall for such. In this vein, using the alias of Gold, he will be spreading rumors to gather members of the LIES program who are ready to 'stand up for themselves' and/or 'show we won't take this'. Various other phrases that may or may not imply outright rebellion, without outright saying it.
Utilizing an abandoned warehouse in the Down - as well as some PCs and/or NPC subs to serve as guards/watchdogs, and some to cause trouble in other parts of the City to serve as a distraction for the popo (including hiring a few PC mercenaries) - he'll address his audience with hood and mask and pretty much call for a riot. It's very possible that he allow things to be talked down to a protest, but if so, he'll be tapping some specific characters to ensure it escalates one way or another.
The protest itself will start in the Down a few days later; while it'll begin as one can expect (chanted phrases, posters, demonstrations and/or soapbox speeches), Doomfist will be safe in his apartment in the Up when it inevitably escalates in to all-out chaos - whether directly or indirectly caused by his plants, or just tensions spilling over. Two characters causing trouble for sure are MCU!Loki (who will be disguising himself along the lines of Duplicity guards and/or victims as needed to provoke attacks), and Randall Flagg (who will be just causing mayhem and destruction in general). The resulting riot will likely last a day or two before it's able to be quelled - longer, if Duplicity doesn't otherwise tap in to its methods to rein in powers/abilities/etc - and will result in gratuitous property damage and injury.
While the goal isn't to kill, it's very possible some characters will take advantage of the situation and try to murder anyway; nonetheless, at present, it looks to be what happened when you get a bunch of cornered animals in a room and start poking them with sticks. That is to say, the general consensus from the playerbase that's expressed interest is minimizing damage and protecting their own; they'll react to violence with violence, but after the initial explosion, it should die down without too much trouble. There are a couple who have mentioned wanting to plant bombs and the like, but, again, this doesn't seem like the kind of thing which will become obscene.
ICly, people who hide indoors/otherwise avoid the area should be able to avoid the chaos. Unless Duplicity is going to do a bulk punishment again, this should allow players who want to avoid the whole thing to avoid the whole thing.
Questions:
--What level of response can we expect? This is Doomfist's primary goal; assessing what Duplicity is equipped to deal with, and how it does so.
--What punishments can the scapegoats/captured OOCly expect? Presumably a degree of this is up to the players, but just a general overview/sense would be fine. We have 616!Bucky volunteering to take as much blame as he possibly can, as well. I'm also wondering if characters who are more fighty/wanting to overthrow can be taken to SLUT centers and have a secondary conditioning that at least /tames/ that urge to VIVA LA REVOLUTION.
--What impact can we hope for? That is to say, the sense of the city afterwards. From an OOC level, this is my thought process on the plot pitch;
'OOCly my goal with this is for Duplicity to realize that the characters were pushed too hard with the introduction of Veracity, and for this to help create some breathing room for the characters to heal/recover - and also for some possibly lighter plots (relatively speaking; they may still be dark, just. You know. Not as dark). While I expect it'll still result in some characters being punished/scapegoated/etc, I'm hoping the IC impact also relieves some stress/frustration and allows some of the characters to feel like they actually fought back/accomplished something. Ideally the punishments would be enough to keep them from OUTRIGHT overthrowing Duplicity, or at least go to more subversive routes.'
Assuming the plot is approved, I'll do another OOC post with firm dates/final sign-ups (as well as final assessment of damage; if things change in terms of damage scope, I'll let you guys know ASAP) and post IC logs whenever we're okay with. At this point it'll probably be one log for planning, one for the actual protest-riot.
The warehouse is old. Empty. whatever it was once used for is forgotten; at this point, it seems to be only used as refuge for Submissives down on their luck. There's traces of habitation here and there; blankets, trash, but no sign of the residents. Careful observers might notice a figure or two at the windows; look-outs, one could assume.
Shadows and rafters give plenty of places for people to find someplace to stand - or sit, or hang, or however they wish to wait. The low murmur of other voices offers cover to quieter conversation, such as wondering what all of this is about;
We aren't going to just take this. They can't keep doing this to us. Something has to be done.
These were the kinds of phrases used to both attract attention, and keep it quiet; after all, the LIERs have already seen what happens when Duplicity thinks there's dissent in the ranks. What would it do if it knew?
Eventually, a strong voice booms through the warehouse-
"Thank you for coming."
It comes a figure that's abruptly pulling itself out of the crowd. While it's large and hulking, it practically blends in with the shadows- swathed in robes of black from head to toe, the only color comes from its golden mask. Even the holes underneath are dark; some sort of black gauze covers eyes and skin.
The figure strides out in to the center of the room and turns to address its majority.
"I trust you'll all appreciate my efforts to pull together this meeting - as well as respecting my privacy. But I want to emphasize I'm not here as a leader, or any sort of figurehead - I'm only here to start the fire."
A beat. And Gold turns slowly, masked face slowly tilting up and down as they seemingly try to address everyone in the room. Their voice is distorted, as if speaking through some sort of filter; impossible to tell if it's male or female.
"It's already been lit, though, hasn't it? From the very first day they brought us here. Pulled us out of our homes, or lives, forced us in to their 'research' - all of that's bad enough. But what we've suffered here, without cause, without reason-"
A beat of silence, then they continue;
"For those of you new, Fort Harmony wasn't the only time we've been made to be the worst of ourselves. Some of you still have Tumenalia fresh in your minds- or even what happened when we had our visitor, some time ago. I, for one, am done waiting to see what they heap upon us next." They spread their arms wide, voice booming; "Because even when there's been those cooperation - making Contracts, fulfilling their quotas - we've been molested! Debased. I can only hope some of you feel the same way I do, and that it's time to turn the tables- that you're willing to do something!"
Arms lower slowly as that last word seems to echo throughout the room. When Gold speaks again, their voice is quieter, calmer- almost serene.
"I am willing to hear suggestions as to what that 'something' is."
And with that, they take a step back to cede the floor - or at least, making it clear they're done for the moment.
